These ruins are very different from the Mayan ruins we have been visiting- although there is a ball court here ad well. The game must have been as popular then as soccer is today.
We were.able to see some examples of the painted stucco on the inner walls and some frescoes made of clay ceramic on an outer wall. The climate is desert like around here and perhaps not quite as hard on the buildings as jungle. No tree roots to upheave the foundations.
There are many columns that remind me of roman ruins. These once held up rooves over the common areas around the pyramids. There was a building.on top of the main pyramid which had huge carved pillars dipicting past rulers that held up the roof. The remaining pillars are mounted up there in no particular position.
