Location: Atotonilco, Guanajuato, Mexico
Name: Sanctuario de Atotonilco
Notes: We were in a taxi coming home from Centro when the taxi driver, a really friendly sort, mentioned the Sanctuario de Atotonilco. He said it was the Sistene chapel of Mexico and not to be missed.
So a few days later we headed out to see the church.
As the pictures show, it is quite amazing and if not the quality of Michelangelo’s work, it is, if nothing else, exuberant!
This sanctuary is designated as a World Heritage Site and thousands of people come here to see it. However, it is still relatively uncrowded on any given day, unlike the Sistene Chapel!
