Charles de Gaul Airport, Paris   8:28 a.m.

Weather:  Overcast   Temp: 20C

Notes:  It was a long flight that left late. We are about a half hour late in landing.  Crowded plane, we were in the middle of the middle row in the tail section. Blah.  It took about 10 minutes before enough of the passengers had left to allow us to move.  I was beginning to worry the 1 1/2 hours we had to wait before our next flight wasn’t going to be long enough and we would miss our flight to Cape Town.  It all depended on how close the next gate was…

We had to rush to a different terminal but the shuttle was right there so it really ended up being quick. Also a case of hurry up and wait.

Cape Town airport   11:20pm (Africa time)

Weather:  Overcast   Temp: 16C

Notes: Our flight from Paris to Cape Town began with an hour’s wait at the gate. Apparently the captain was waiting for something to be delivered but I could never catch what they said it was. I started watching a movie to pass the time.  Finally we pulled away from the gate and waited another 10 minutes on the runway. Finally we got into the air for our 11 hour flight.
It was overall a very smooth flight and there was certainly no shortage of food. We were served two main meals (chicken and then a pasta) as well as crackers and twice, frozen ice-cream pops. I watched at least 3 movies and a selection of Ted talks, dozed, and listened to an audio book. Finally we touched down in Cape Town.
Going through customs was pretty quick and collecting our checked baggage was no problem either. They had both arrived safe and sound. We were met at arrivals by Jerome who drove us the half hour to our hotel. Here we are in Africa!

Lagoon Beach Hotel & Spa – 11:45pm

Weather: Overcast& rainy  Temp: 16

Notes:  Bill checked us in and we were given our keys for room 229.  Apparently we were the last guests slated to arrive this evening.  We went up to our room and stashed our luggage and decided we were still too wound up from travelling to sleep.  I felt a bit hungry too, so we went down to the hotel bar for a beer and some food.

Eats – La Mizu Bar,  Lagoon Beach Hotel & Spa – 11:55pm

Notes:   I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and Bill ordered a ham and cheese because neither of us we really hungry, however when they came we realized we should have only ordered one because each had two sandwiches.  We both had a beer.
Cost:  250zar
