On the Road, 8:07 AM

Weather: Sunny
Temperature: 16C
Toll road to Cárdenas
Notes: We followed Bill’s gps which took us to Puebla along a secondary highway. It wound through lots of little towns that were busy getting their workaday routines started. Traffic was heavy but moved well. Biggest headache of course are the numerous topes.
The trip sped up once we hit the 150D cuota highway. Again heavy traffic through Puebla but soon thinned as we made it out into the country. This area has terrible air pollution. It was even hard to see the volcano when we went by. Not only are there factories spewing smoke, but farmers are burning their fields too. Add onto that the heat and later, the humidity, it becomes quite the stew.

Notes: (Red Cross 4mx) It is not cheap to take the cuota highways but since we really needed to make some time, it was worth it. Some of the areas in the mountains were beautiful roads with great swoopy curves and plenty of passing room.

Accommodations, Cardenas, 3:33 PM
Weather: Hot
Temperature: 38C
Name: Hotel Madan Cardenas
Cost: 740mx
Notes: We tried the hotel downtown that we stayed in before but the rooms were old and smelly and the beds hard. They had air-conditoners but they too were very old and probably made a racket when turned on. Instead we opted for this business man’s hotel close to the highway. It is a newer building with amenities you usually get in a motel 8. Things unheard of in modest Mexican hotels such as hair dryers, ironing boards and coffee maker in the room!
