Morning Briefing, 7:11 a.m.
Weather: Clear Temp: 13C
Notes: Our departure time was to be 7:00am. We had our briefing, we need to be at our next destination in time for a jeep ride onto the sand dunes. We had to maneuver back down that horrible sandy drive way and continue on the dirt roads to our next destination. Today will be a short day, at least if we can manage the horrible gravel roads in a timely manner!

Arrival at Le Mirage, 12:33 p.m.
Location: Le Mirage, Sossusvlei, Namibua
Weather: Clear Temp: 34C
Notes: After two very challenging roads and 4 hours we arrived at the hotel. It looks like an old english fortress plunked onto the desert.
Our room is spectacular!

Special Attractions: Dune Adventure:, 4:23 p.m.
Location: Nambib- Nakluft National Park
Weather: Clear Temp: 36C
Notes: We took a safari van out to see the dunes. It was pretty squirrelly how our driver plowed through the soft, deep sand. We stopped and had a picnic lunch.
One of the main attractions was a dried up oasis that had a number of petrified trees on it. Apparently the drifting sand over hundreds of years cut off the seasonal river flow to the oasis and the trees died. It was necessary to walk up a sand dune and then down the other side to reach the oasis. I walked to to the top but decided to stay there rather than walk down to the oasis. It didn’t look all that interesting to me. At least not enough to persuade me to walk back up the dune in 36C ! Bill went down though and brought back the pictures.

Special Attraction: Sessriem canyon 5:45pm
Notes: This canyon, although deep, only has water in it every few years. 1997 had the most.
