"Let us help you accomplish your curriculum goals" Who are we?The Scanlon Creek Conservation Area was formed in 1965 from several pieces of property purchased by the Holland Valley Conservation Authority (now Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority.) The major landholder of the 282 hectare property was the Scanlon family, hence the name. The Professor E. A. Smith Natural Resources Educational Centre was built in 1978 to provide conservation education to area school children. Originally built to accommodate 40 students, the building was expanded in the early 1990's to allow for up to 60 students and their teachers. More recent renovations have made the building a comfortable choice for a 2 1/2 to 5 day educational visit. Also in the early 1990's three portables were moved to the conservation area where they were joined to create the Nature Centre, our day program facility. Residential Programs at the educational centre are provided by the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority in partnership with the York Region District School Board and the York Catholic District School Board. From the food services staff who provide the delicious meals to the outdoor educators who guide students in their exploration of field, forest and pond the Staff at Scanlon Creek is experienced, friendly and dedicated to providing a superior experience to their visitors.
