The scenery is spectacular through this part of Ecuador. We wound up and down through green mountains topping out around 3000mts. It was cool at that height but made for comfortable riding for the most part. However, soon after passing Palanda we ran out of pavement. Being so high in the mountains there were lots of landslides that had been more or less pushed to one side to let traffic get through. These were often narrow, rough, wet and slippery. Sometimes water flowed across the road and we had no idea how deep it was. A few holes also surprised us with their depth. It was slow going so we were happy to stop in Zumba for the night even though it was only 2:30 pm.
