lowest pointDeath Road, Bolivia Messy, dusty, nasty. That is the best way to describe the roads that we travelled to get to death road. It has been very dry for the last week or so so there is a lot of dust. We met a lot of traffic coming along the road and wondered why. It turns out that this part of the road is the only road you can use to get to Coroico because of the construction that’s on the main road.We reach the bottom of the valley down by the river and this is where death road starts. This whole area is very tropical and lush and green. It felt like we were in the jungle. There were bananas and other kinds of fruit trees growing all along the side of the road. It’s very beautiful. There are some strange conventions about using death road. The main one is that instead of driving on the right hand side people have to drive on the left hand side just like in England. I’m not sure why this is the case but we could see it was happening. This death road is very popular among bicyclists. There are many tour companies that will take people to the top of the road which is about 60 kilometers long. The bicyclists all bicycle down the road so they’re going from height of about 4000mts down to the low of about 1600 meters. Motorcyclists however are supposed to go up the road. So we started at the bottom and headed for the top.
