Here catch!

Vegreville, Alberta, Canada

We used WikiCamps CA quite a bit while travelling across the prairies.  It was pretty good at directing us to reasonable campgrounds such as this one on the edge of Vegreville, Alberta.  We didn’t realize that the campground was on both side of a railroad track, although we realized we were definitely going to hear trains in the night.  We tried to find a spot as far away from the tracks as possible but it was difficult because the campground was quite long and narrow – no sites were very far from the tracks!  Also it had been raining earlier so we were trying to find a reasonably dry site.  Finally we settled for a place near a clump of trees, set up camp and went to take a picture of the local monument – a giant easter egg!  This area was settled by Ukrainians and this is a beloved symbol for them. (I read the plaque but don’t remember why!)   Camping cost:  $26.00CAD  includes hot shower.  NOTE: Even though the town was founded by Ukrainians, there is not one Ukrainian restaurant to be found there!  Go figure.
