Trip: Gulf coast trip

Wednesday 5:26 PM

Name: Traveler’s Rest

Location: Bogalusa Louisiana

Notes: We passed through Alabama where the land is very low in spots with lots of swamps, lagoons and rivers. In the low lying areas everything is built on stilts- including highways! The highway we were on was sparsely populated and so when it got to be about 3:30pm we started looking on Google to see where we.might find a hotel. There were a couple of small towns but none of them had accommodations. Then we reached this town where Google said there were lots of hotels. Turned out they were all on the interstate highway 40 minutes from the town. We tried the Budget Hotel in Bogalusa but it was too darn scuzzy. The beds looked like someone got up and pulled the covers haphazardly over the rumpled pillows. Ugh! So we resigned ourselves to heading for the interstate. By then it was 4:30 and daylight was at a premium. Bill decided to gas up before we left the town and pulled into the first gas station he saw. Afterwards we headed back out to the road and lo and behold there was a decent looking hotel right across from us! Although a little more expensive than we wanted it was not too bad a price. After checking in We walked back to the gas station where there was a small takeout for seafood and bought dinner to eat in our room. Bill has laryngitis so he was happy that we were in a room rather than camping.
