Gulf Coast trip
Friday
4:07 PM

Name: Super 8 Motel
Location: Harlingen, Texas
Notes: We started out this morning with bright sunshine but a temperature of only 2C! A stiff wind out of the west was blowing too so the first couple of hours were a mite chilly.
The topography along highway 77 is dead flat. In fact there were lots of signs that warn that the road is prone to flooding.
There must have been a hurricane that passed through the little town of Refugio because there is still a lot of devestation in the town.
Most of the land is scrubby with short bushy trees but in places there were hundreds of acres growing rice. Then as we got closer to Brownsville the main crop was cotton. I dont know why there were a series of cotton bales left along the fenceline of one field. They were mostly broken and blowing across the road.
By lunchtime the air had warmed somewhat and by the time we reached our hotel the wind had died down and the temperature was around 21V. Much better!
We got a good deal on this hotel room. Bill was checking booking.com in front of the clerk who quoted us 60. Plus taxes. The website said 50. So we got it for 60. With taxes.
There was an Office Depot in walking distance so I was able to get a long cable for my phone. My old phone gave up the ghost yesterday. 🙁
