Our first day started fairly early. We had to be at the school at 8 in the morning for our entrevista or interview to check out our level. There were 3 students in total meeting first with Jeannie, the owner of the school, and then with Isobella, one of the teachers. The other student starting with us was Mike or Miguel or Miguelito as Isobella liked to call him.
We started with Jeannie describing the details of how and when the classes are held and the other things that go on at the school such as cooking and dancing classes as well as day trips and intercambios. When Isobella arrived we were joined by one more student, David, who had started the previous week. We chatted for a while to get to know each other and then we took a small local bus to the local church for some history and lessons in Spanish. We then walked to the zocalo in the centre of town and had some really good tacos from a street vendor for 3 pesos each. That’s a pretty cheap lunch. After lunch we took another bus back to the school where we were divided up according to our perceived level of Spanish.
So for this week anyway the school has four students and 2 teachers. Lorraine gets private lessons with one teacher and the 3 men are together with Isobella.
Our topic today was the imperative which I have worked with a bit in the past, so I was able to hold my own with the group.
