Gulf coast trip

Monday, April 9
4:22 PM

Location: Xpujil, Campeche
Notes: What a hot hot day! Although we didnt have to travel very far today we were both drenched with sweat by the time we arrived at our hotel. We chose this one from IOverlander because it had a pool and secure parking. The girl gave us an upstairs room of course, and all the way to the back of the building. Hopefully the trade off will be that it is quiet at night. This is a truck route and huge transport trucks are a constant on the road.
We enjoyed a swim in the pool then went for a beer at the restaurant. We ordered guacamole which was ok however the totopos that came with it were so brittle and stale they were almost impossible to eat.
I went up to our room for a rest then we went for a walk into town. This is a working town not set up for tourists and it showed. All the stores were for clothes, shoes, hardware or food.
This area is right in the heart of maya land and everywhere there are ruins. As we drove along I saw mounds that could well be ruins and right in the middle of Xpujil there is a small ruin that is being excavated and rebuilt.
Tomorrow we are headed for Calakmul.
