This private collection of authentic masks was not far from our house-sit. It is also an airbnb accommodation but well out of our price range!
All of the masks have actually been used in indigenous ceremonies which is what makes them authentic. They have been specifically crafted to depict characters in ceremonies that have been performed, often for many hundreds of years. Our guide explained the significance of many of them. Some masks are realistic looking – especially the animals, while others are of fantastical people and creatures. All are amazing works! There are some masks for sale if you want to start your own collection. Very interesting place!
