On the Road 8:35 AM

Weather: Humid, hot

Temperature: 32C

Notes: We managed to leave by 7:30 am this morning before the heat really got going. Google said we’d be in Palenque by 2:30 but in fact we arrived before 2pm. The drive took us through lots of different terrain, from dead flat, rock strewn grazing land to rolling hills with mango plantations to flat, low marshlands dotted with cattle or palm oil palms.

Accommodations, 1:57 PM

Weather:Humid, hot

Temperature:  36C

Name: T&C Hostel and camping

Cost: 350mx

Notes: I picked this place on Ioverlander because it was inexpensive and had a pool. It was the first thing we did upon arrival- jump in that pool.  It was huge and at one side had a large shade tarp to allow for swimming out of the blazing sun.  The rooms are sparse, with just two beds and no other furniture. There is an old air conditioner that works, thank goodness!

A couple of hours after arriving, the sky clouded over and a huge storm blew through.  It blew down part of the sunshade over the pool and the owners had to go out and rescue it.  It rained hard for about half an hour and then settled into a steady rain.  At least the air was much cooler.  A welcome change.  Just glad we aren’t on the road.

Eats- Lunch/dinner 3:25 PM

Name:Restaurant El Lago

Notes:  There was a restaurant across the street from our hostel so we went in search of sustenance.  It took a while before anyone came to take our orders.  We both ordered fish, Bill, a la plancha, me, al ajillo.  For drinks we got beer, water and naranjada.  You can guess who had what.  The fish was very tasty but so small! It was like eating half a perch! The whole meal was not huge, not even a great deal of rice. I think we will be hungry before bedtime.  Cost:370mx

Groceries, 7:48 PM

Notes:Bought 2 buns, cheese, mango, water, 2 yogurts, 2 muffins and a beer. Ate the buns and cheese for late snack to make up for our light lunch. We had planned to go out to a taco place but a storm moved in about 5pm and it has been raining ever since. (Now 7:30pm)

Cost:134.02
