On the Road, 11:55 AM

Weather: Sunny

Temperature: 28C

Notes: We have taken a route through Missouri that passes through the Mark Twain forest. These are all two lane, nicely paved State roads, almost deserted today because it is Memorial Day for Americans and family gets together for bbqs etc. Instead of going places.  We’ve seen beautiful forests and lucious green fields of wheat or cattle. All along the roadsides honeysuckle blooms and the air is full of its sweet scent. The sky is a mixture of sun and cloud but no rain tonight in this direction.

Accommodations, 2:45 PM

Weather: Windy

Temperature: 32C

Name: Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park, Rend Lake, Illinois

Notes:  We’ve come full circle. This is the same campground we stayed at on our trip down. Now, however, the lake is very high and has eaten away at the banks even though they had been protected with rocks.  We camped further away from the parking lot this time because over the American holiday the campground must have been full and so was the dumpster.  It stank of rotten everything and there was quite a wind blowing.  There were a few more campers here now than when we were here before.  There was a group of  three young, burly men who seemed to be fishing for catfish while up to their necks in the water.  I don’t know how they did it, but after a couple of hours they left with a string of good sized catfish.

We went to the store to buy groceries for our dinner and tomorrow’s breakfast.  Cost: $12.05
