Arrival – The Lodge at the Great Zimbabwe Ruins
Weather: Partly sunny Temp: 18C
We arrived and had a picnic lunch in the parking lot in front of the main lodge. Just as well because the lodge did not have any power. After eating we took our luggage to our huts and then reconvened for a short ride to see the Zimbabwe Ruins. These are not well known, even though they are what gave the country its name. It seems that the original colonizers wanted to keep them a secret because then they could claim that the land was not inhabited by a true civilization. In fact, of course, the ancient inhabitants of this land were every bit as ingenious as those elsewhere in Africa. These ruins prove it.
There was a little museum at the site but there was no electricity to illuminate the displays, so we all got out our cell phones to liggt the way and the museum curator gave us a tour and explained the history of the site.
