Today one of our chores was to take the local bus to the market and purchase supplies from a list of ingredients that we will turn into dinner tonight. At first it seemed like quite a chore, but the first bus that came along had a sign that said “mercado”. We walked into the market and it was huge, like most markets in Latin America, however in a very short time we came across a cheese shop that was obviously not following the Monty python tradition because he obviously had a lot of cheese. We needed three different things in this category and he was able to fill the order completely even while trying to figure out our butchered Spanish. The rest of the list was completed just as quickly using only a couple more stalls. We had a bit of a problem describing a roll of paper towel. But once the girl figured out what we wanted she pulled out a ladder and climbed up to the top of the stall to get it. It seems that you can’t just pick up what you need, you have to ask for it. We had good instructions for return bus trip as well and were able to find bus 6 to acapantzinto quite easily.
