August 24, 2019 – Day 2, Swokopmund, Namibia

Laundry Day, 8:37 a.m.
Location: Swokopmund, Namibia

Weather: Clear Temp: 26C

Notes: Our first non riding day since leaving Cape Town. Breakfast was at the main lodge so we went there at about 7:30am.
Afterwards we took our laundry to the laundrymat. It was pretty poor by our standards. You could do it yourself or have the laundry lady do it. Our clothes went into a machine and we walked to the beach where Bill dipped his feet into the Atlantic.
To pass the time we had a coffee in a cute courtyard at a coffee shop called Jacques. When we went back to the laundry, the lady told us the machine didn’t spin so she had to take it from one machine to the other in order to spin it. So here we sit waiting…
Eventually our clothes went into a dryer and about a half hour later were more or less dry. We took them home and spread them out to finish drying.

Notes: We caught a ride downtown with Hugo in the truck and dropped into the Yamaha shop just look around. Next we went to the drug store for some “eleve”. Unfortunately the stores all close at 1pm. The grocery store was open though so I was able to get some face cream and toothpaste.
By this time we were hungry and stopped into a fish restaurant and ordered sushi for 2 a beer and a citrus tonic.
We were fascinated with how wide the streets are here. I guess the town is young enough to have been built with cars in mind rather than horse and buggys.
People still try to grow lush gardens even in the desert.
