We had 12 hours to kill between our landing in Dublin and our next flight to France so we decided to rent a car and do a little tour. With both of us tired and jetlagged it probably wasn’t the best choice since it is left handed driving in Ireland! Our rented car was standard too with the shifter on the left. Bill really had his hands full. It was my job to remind him at every roundabout to go left and look right! Somehow we managed to drive to Malahide without incident. There we had a real breakfast – me just eggs bacon and toast, but Bill enjoyed an excellent eggs benedict.Next we drove out to the coast and walked a little.bit along the shore. We didn’t stay there too long because the breeze was quite chilly and we didn’t want to fill our shoes with sand.We stopped at an old cemetery and marvelled at how old the grave stones were. Finally we took a tour of the old Malahide Castle which dates back to the 1200’s and was home to the Talbot family. It has undergone many extensions and renovations so much of the furnishings were from the 18th and 19th centuries. When we got too tired we made our way back to the airport, turned in our rental car and sat down to wait the last couple of ours at the gate. Partly cloudy 18
