Diving DayIsla Semour NorteGalapogos ‘ Ecuador Antonio Gil Puerto Villamil (Note: incorrect coordinates)The ocean was really rough today. It took nearly two hours of up and down boating to get to North Semour from Puerto Ayora. I had taken a gravol so I didn’t get seasick, however it was impossible to get into diving gear without the help of the crew. The divers who hadn’t dived for a couple of years, like Bill and I, had to do a trial dive in a shallow area. It was then I discovered my wet suit was too tight. I went back to the boat and one of the crew suggested unzipping the suit. That worked well and I rejoined the others to complete my little test. Then we were off to the dive site. The crew did everything for us. All we had to do was sit on the ledge of the boat. They put our fins on, put our tanks on the BCS, put the BCS on us, checked our weight belts, had us test our regulators. On the count of 3 and GO we all did back entries all at the same time.Because of the huge swells on the ocean, the visibility was not great. We did see a couple of sea turtles, some rays, reef sharks, hammerhead sharks and a variety of tropical fish. All was seen through a haze. Our second dive was much the same although we saw what they called garden eels- hundreds of small worm like eels sticking up out of the sand bottom.Thankfully we did not have to go by boat back to Puerto Ayora. Instead we drove across the island in a taxi truck. It took a good night’s sleep before the ground stopped moving under my feet. I was exhausted. Partly cloudy 28
