Usually we like to have a quiet day discovering our new surroundings for the first day, but not this trip. Jeannie from our school Encuentros emailed me with a proposal to take a bus trip to Teotihuacan which are ancient pyramids north of Mexico City. We figured that we might as well just jump right in, although it meant getting up at 6:30 on our first morning so we could get breakfast and then a taxi to the meeting place. We met 10 women who were also here studying Spanish but at another school. Most of the women were a group from Colorado who had been studying Spanish together like a book club, only this was a Spanish club. They were taking the next step by coming to Cuernavaca for 2 weeks.

The bus trip took about three hours to get there, we had to bypass the centre of Mexico City because it was closed for a bicycle event. At least there was very little traffic because it was Monday. We had an interesting guide who was 82 years old and had spent a lot of time working as an anthropologist in various sites around Mexico and other parts of the world.
