Eats – Breakfast 9:03 a.m.
Location: Lagoon Beach Hotel
Weather: Partly cloudy Temp: 11C
Notes: So our first day in Cape Town begins. We awoke at 8:00am, had instant coffee (electric kettle in room) and went down to the restaurant for breakfast. It was a well stocked buffet where you could have anything including pancakes made automatically in front of you by a machine. I had scrambled eggs, bacon, beans and rice and an apple turnover. Bill had the eggs, sausage, hash browns.
There is a spectacular view of the beach from the restaurant.
Cost: Incl with room

Beachfront, Lagoon Beach Hotel 12:19pm
Weather: Partly cloudy Temp: 16C
Notes: We have booked a shuttle into the city for 2pm and spent an hour strolling along the beach.
Our hotel is right by a river that empties into the sea and it is a steady battle between the river currents and the incoming tide. We watched a young woman try to cross at the narrow but she got soaked by an incoming wave that washed deeply over the sand bar at the mouth of the river. She had to retreat and find a different way across.
The sand on the sides of the river grow an amazing abundance of flowering plants and succulants. The picture is a kind of geranium.
The river is polluted and the city puts no niceties on it.

Cape Town Waterfront 2:34pm
Our Uber taxi dropped us off at the Waterfront district in Cape Town. This is a very touristy area full of expensive shops, souvenir stores and restaurants. The harbour is colourful with lots of boats, blue skies and puffy white clouds. In this picture you can see the famous Table Mountain in the background.
The day is coolish, especially so close to the water, but the sun is warm.

Eats – Lunch 3:09pm
Location: Mozambik Restaurant
Notes: We wandered up and down the waterfront streets looking at the menus for the restaurants. I had a hankering for chicken and we saw chicken on the menu of a Portuguese restaurant called Mozambik. We passed it by to look at the next restaurant and a young waiter from Mozambik gave me a 1000 watt smile. We looked at several other restaurants but came back to this one, drawn by the promise of chicken and a waiter’s friendly smile.
Bill had Chicken with peri peri sauce, and I had the chicken with coconut sauce, salad, beer water and tea.
Very different and delicious.
Cost: 270 zar
After lunch we wandered around the district, looking at the street art and I bought a T-shirt in one of the souvenir shops.
Cost: 240zar
