The Day Begins, 8:38 a.m.

Location: Arniston Hotel and Spa

Weather: Overcast  Temp: 12C

Notes: Our bags have to be at the truck at 8:45am. The plan is for a short day today, only covering about 270kms. We enjoyed a coffee in our room facing the ocean.  Such a nice little seating area there we just had to use it.  Too bad we can’t stay here for a little while longer but… we have to get a move on.

Special Attraction: Agulhas National Park, 10:40 a.m.

Location: Cape Agulhas, South Africa

Weather: Partly sunny  Temp: 14C

Notes: Even though the Cape of Good Hope is touted as the most southerly point in Africa, actually this location is the true most southerly point.

Eats – lunch, 12:34 p.m.

Location: The Barn Restaurant, Caledon

Weather: Sunny  Temp: 16C

Notes: We took over this empty restaurant while the only staff was the owner and his wife. He said he would get more staff and described the special, which was chicken and ham in a mushroom sauce. Most of us chose it and it was very tasty although way too much food for me.

Destination achieved, 3:51 p.m.

Location: Roosewijn Guest House, Stallenbosch

Weather: Sunny  Temp: 20C

Notes: After a fast ride along a main highway, we arrived in Stallenbosch. We were supposed to take a slower route through the mountains, but our lunch host had told us that the pass was closed from recent landslides so we had to reroute.
The guesthouse is beautiful and Bill and I got an amazing room with king bed and a fireplace(nonworking). The bathroom features a clawfoot tub that will go unused today. It is so big I would feel guilty about using the water needed to fill it. So a shower instead.
There is a pretty little courtyard with a small inviting pool. Too bad it is too cool for swimming.

Eats – Dinner, 7:34pm

Location: Wijnhuis Restaurant

Notes: We took a stroll around the block. It was interesting because it contained a big university.
Because lunch was substantial we ate light for dinner. Bill had a glass of red wine and ostrich meatballs in tomato sauce and I had vegetarian bruchetta and an iced tea.
